State Bicycle Route

Pennsylvania has several State Bicycle Routes that cross the state in north-south and east-west directions. These routes provide expert bicyclists with recommended roads to travel when crossing the state (overview map).

In 2011, HABPI contacted the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation and Pennsylvania Pedalcycle Action Committee (PPAC) and requested establishment of a new State Bicycle Route connecting State Route J with State Route S while passing through Gettysburg. After two years of coordination and assistance from PPAC and PennDOT, the route was established and signs marking the route were installed in June of 2013.

The new Route JS, starts near Hanover Junction in York County, and goes to Hanover along State Route 616 and Green Valley Road and State Route 516 to State Route 116. Leaving Hanover, Bike Route JS follows State Route (SR) 194 south to Littlestown and then follows SR 97 to Gettysburg. In Gettysburg, the new route connects to State Bicycle Route J2 which goes north and south on Business 15. Going north, J2 connects with State Bicycle Route J near Harrisburg. Route J2 also connect with Route S1 which leaves Gettysburg on Mummasburg and continues to Arendtsville where it joins with Bicycle Route S.

Here is a map showing the routes in Adams County.
