State Bicycle RoutePennsylvania has several State Bicycle Routes that cross the state in north-south and east-west directions. These routes provide expert bicyclists with recommended roads to travel when crossing the state (overview map). In 2011, HABPI contacted the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation and Pennsylvania Pedalcycle Action Committee and requested establishment of a new State Bicycle Route connecting State Route J with State Route S while passing through Gettysburg. The route would start near Hanover Junction in York County, go to Hanover, then follow State Route (SR) 194 south to Littlestown and then follow SR 97 to Gettysburg. In Gettysburg, the new route would connect to State Bicycle Route J2 which goes north and south on Business 15. Going north, J2 connects with S1 on the Gettysburg College Campus. Route S1 continues to Arendtsville and joins with Route S. Route J2 continues to Biglerville and joins with Route J. |
